AN ECOSYSTEM

THA WORKS

HERE.

AT BAR

CROSS.

Nestled in the heart of Wyoming’s lower Green River Valley, the key to our success and continued progress lies in the stewardship of the ranch, sustaining the Western ranching heritage, building on our alliance with the people who live and work here, and the partnership with the cattle and wildlife that call the ranch home.

Sustainable pasture management and thoughtful livestock grazing are at the core of the ranch’s sustainability. The health of our pastures, the quality of the beef we produce, the vitality of the ecosystems, and the success of the business as a whole are interconnected and depend upon the diverse resources. Prioritizing responsible, sustainable ranching practices, we improve soil health, foster biodiversity, and preserve critical habitats for a wide range of species. From the smallest insects to the majestic elk and moose, every living thing benefits from our commitment to ecological balance. Even the ranch’s streams and creeks play a vital role, supporting native fish like the Colorado River Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, many other aquatic species, and the fields they irrigate in the growing months. Implementing environmentally sound ranch practices benefits our yearling cattle operation.

Our location in the Green River Valley presents unique challenges and opportunities, and Bar Cross Ranch is proud to be a guardian of this unique environment. Our land provides essential habitat and migration corridors for wildlife, including elk, deer, and pronghorns. The sagebrush sea offers a stage for the sage grouse’s iconic lek displays, while open spaces and riparian areas sustain countless other species. By preserving these ecosystems, we ensure that the natural rhythms of the valley continue to thrive alongside our ranching operations.

Bar Cross Ranch continues to play a small role in preserving the Western ranching heritage that has shaped this region for generations. Much of our land is protected under conservation easements, ensuring that the open spaces, wildlife habitats, and ranching traditions of the Green River Valley endure for future generations. Our dedication to conservation is a promise to protect the life of the ranch, its land, its wildlife, and its legacy, long into the future.

THIS LAND
CAN BE HARSH.

WATER HERE
IS HONORED
AND PROTECTED.

Water is everything out here. It feeds our cattle, grows the hay that gets us through winter, and keeps the land alive for the wildlife that pass through. Some animals we see often. Others cross quietly, just once in a while.

From the various lakes to the smallest creeks and channels, we treat every drop like it matters. This land doesn’t give anything easy. Water is one of the few things that offers something to all who depend on it.

STEP LIGHTLY

ACROSS

THE LAND

At Bar Cross Ranch, we preserve much more than the land and the waterways. We protect what moves across it. Long before we set foot here, the local native tribes hunted, trapped, and fished the streams, the elk moved through the draws, the trout ran the river, and the birds followed the wind from one season to the next. This land has always been home to more than just cattle, and we aim to keep it that way.

Healthy wildlife means healthy ground. Predators help keep things in balance. Grazers return nutrients to the soil. The cycle holds strong when we respect it. We pay close attention to the harmony of this place, keeping migratory paths open, water flowing, and native habitat intact.

Our job is to work the land with care and step lightly where others have stepped for generations. The goal is simple. Leave it better than we found it.

MANAGING THE
BIGGER PICTURE

Land management at Bar Cross Ranch is not a single task. It’s the thread that runs through everything we do. From grazing patterns to water flow to wildlife corridors, every decision is connected. Managing this land well means keeping our eyes open — watching how the seasons shift, how the grass returns, how the herds move, and how the wilder aspect of nature shows up year after year. It’s how we keep the ranch productive, the soil healthy, and the balance intact. You could call it the master dashboard of the ranch. We just call it paying attention.

That attention shows up in real ways. We rotate our cattle carefully to protect forage and avoid overgrazing. We manage our water sources with the same respect, keeping irrigation systems running while protecting rivers and riparian areas. We stay on top of invasive species and put in the work to preserve native habitat. Everything we do comes back to one goal. Keeping this land working not just for us, but for every living thing that depends on it.

Sporting on the Bar Cross Ranch is a privilege, not a given.

Access is granted by special permission only, and every hunt is closely managed with care for the land and the wildlife that call it home. From big-game hunts for elk, mule deer, and pronghorn antelope to upland bird and waterfowl experiences, the variety of game here reflects the richness of the terrain. Our landscapes range from high-country draws to open fields and river bottoms, each offering a distinct and challenging pursuit. We believe hunting and conservation go hand in hand. Those who come here to hunt also care deeply about preserving what makes this place wild. That’s why we manage our wildlife populations responsibly, protect critical habitat, and work with local partners to ensure that what’s here today will still be here tomorrow.
